Regarding the article published today in the newspaper " L'Unità " entitled " The revenge of the Carabinieri excluded from the Almasri case ," by Paolo Comi , this General Command deems it necessary to clarify the following. The article is unfounded and contains assertions that seriously undermine the dignity and honor of the Carabinieri. In its more than two centuries of history, the Carabinieri have never acted out of " revenge " or to obtain " revenge ," as the reference on the front page and the article's title on page 5 suggest. These expressions are totally alien to the institutional culture, values, and operating methods of the Carabinieri.
In this specific case, the Investigative Unit of the Rome Provincial Command limited itself to carrying out, with customary professionalism and diligence, the document acquisition activities delegated by the judicial authorities, within its scope of expertise and in strict compliance with its functional relationships with the judiciary. The Carabinieri will continue to protect its image and its operations from unfounded journalistic reports that could undermine the trust of citizens and institutions.
